Lowndes, Calhoun Push Road Projects

Two area counties are rushing to spend some state aid road money by next July.

Lowndes County has received about a million dollars to upgrade Lehmberg Road from Highway 182 south to Yorkville Road. Planning has been under way for months and bids will be taken as soon as state transportation officials do an inspection this month.

The county will chip in with some bridge work on the busy connector from New Hope to Columbus.

Calhoun County supervisors plan to spend a little more than $300,000 paving about a mile of Big Creek Road west from the Calhoun City limits.

The money will come from $32 million in state funds released this summer after state revenues exceeded estimates. But the funds must be spent by July 1.
