Video: Lowndes Co Employees Get Insurance Reduction
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Lowndes County’s almost 300 employees will get a break on their health insurance premiums starting in January. Supervisors today agreed to self-insure the county’s health coverage and switch the administration from Blue Cross Blue Shield to United Health Care. The change will save taxpayers between $170,000 and $300,000 next year, depending on claims. It also means lower premiums for county employees. Those premiums could be as much as $60 a month, depending on the coverage and how much buffer the county maintains for unexpected claims. A Committee recommended the change, noting it provided improved coverage for workers while saving money.
