Video: Lowndes County First Responders Prepare For Possible Severe Weather

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Lowndes County emergency responders are ready to move if severe weather strikes.

WCBI Meteorologist Isaac Williams gave emergency management, law enforcement, public works, and medical professionals an update on the potential for bad weather on Wednesday.

The organizations say they have plenty of fuel for their vehicles and generators.

Personnel are also on stand by.

The Red Cross is also prepared to open a shelter, if it is needed.

Past disasters have taught the EMA to be plan for the worst and hope for the best.

“Because we have to be prepared to assist the citizens in Lowndes County if there is severe weather damages here. We are here standing ready to assist anybody injured, any home damage. We are here and available,” said Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency Director Cindy Lawrence.

Each agency will send someone to the emergency operations center tomorrow, if it is activated.

Lawrence also advised people to make sure their Christmas decorations are anchored down before bad weather arrives.
