COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Work on the latest leg of Columbus’ popular downtown Riverwalk could start in August.

Lowndes County supervisors today awarded a $668,000 contract to Columbus-based Weathers Construction to build a link between the existing Riverwalk and the new downtown soccer complex and park.

The 10-foot-wide path will follow Moore’s Creek under Main Street.

Engineer Kevin Stafford hopes to renegotiate some details to get the project under the $600,000 state grant that is paying for the work. Otherwise, Columbus and Lowndes County will have to split the extra costs.

Work could begin in August, and be completed as early as late December.
