Lowndes Drug Busts

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (Press Release) – On Saturday April 23, 2016 Deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call near the intersection of New Hope Road and Yorkville Road in reference to a suspicious person. After deputies made contact with the individual they noticed he appeared to be under the influence of something. After further investigation it was found the person had methamphetamine on his person. An agent with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit was notified and took over the investigation.
Kristopher R. Cox, 26, of Columbus was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. Cox was transported to the Lowndes County Detention Center where he was held until bond could be set.

On Saturday April 23, 2016 Deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call at the Artesia Wells Apartments in Artesia in reference to a disturbance. While investigating the call deputies came in contact with Charlie Owens in a vehicle. After further investigation deputies found over one ounce of marijuana in his possession. An agent with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit was contacted and took over the investigation.
Charlie T. Owens, 32, of Columbus was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana more than one ounce. Owens was transported to the Lowndes County Detention Center where he was held until a bond could be set.

On Monday April 25, 2016 Deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on Highway 45 near the intersection of Spurline Road. After a brief investigation methamphetamine was found on the driver’s person. An agent with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit was contacted and responded to the scene.
James A. Langley, 40, of Caledonia was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. Langley was transported to the Lowndes County Detention Center where he was held until a bond could be set.

On Wednesday April 27, 2016 Agents with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit set up a undercover purchase of prescription medication (suboxone). After the pills were sold to an undercover agent the unit moved in and apprehended the violator. Two other types of prescription pills were also found in his possession. Agents seized the three different types of prescription medications and U.S. currency.
John W. Sterling Jr, 29, of West Point was arrested and charged with sale of a controlled substance (suboxone), possession of a controlled substance (Xanax), and possession of a controlled substance (Adderall). Sterling was transported to the Lowndes County Detention Center where he is being held until a bond can be set.
