LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A long-term effort to four-lane a major Lowndes County connector Road takes a step forward.

County supervisors will spend $1,326,000 to buy 80 feet of right-of-way on the north side of Artesia Road from Guerry Lane to Manufacturers Drive. The county already has 60 feet of right of way.

The latest round of state money will also pay to move utilities. Local, state and federal officials eventually hope to four-lane the road first to Highway 45 Alternate to provide another route to service growing industrial areas around Golden Triangle Airport and train facilities in Artesia.

Long-term plans call for the road to extend through Oktibbeha County to Highway 25 on the south side of Starkville.
