MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – With only two weeks left until Veterans Day, one local community came together to say ‘thank you’ to our country’s heroes.

During the annual Dancing Rabbit Festival, a veterans program was held.

The community filled downtown Macon on Saturday, to not only celebrate an annual festival, but to also take the time to recognize veterans.

The veterans were honored with songs and a poem.

The American Legion Riders from post 69 in Columbus didn’t let the rain stop them from making the trip to Macon.

“We both served and it was our honor,” said Air Force and Army Veteran, Mark Beaver.

For these veterans, having a community to come home to who shows them support means everything.

“It means a lot because when I was a teenager, Vietnam was going on and they mistreated the veterans when they came home and I just enjoy to see them honor the veterans now the way they do,” said Marine Corps Veteran, Charles Sutton.

“It shows that people care for our veterans and that’s high on my priority list. The community must be involved because that’s what makes America great,” said Army Veteran, Joyce Jones.

The legion riders also donated a $500  check to the Wounded Warrior Project.

This year, Veteran’s Day will be on Wednesday, November 11th.
