Macon Woman Dies In Louisiana Crash

HAMMOND, La. (AP) – A Mississippi woman was killed in a head-on crash after driving the wrong way on Interstate 55 near Hammond.

Louisiana State Police, in a news release, identified the victim as 53-year-old Donna I. James, of Macon, Mississippi.

Authorities say James, about 1 a.m. Tuesday, was driving north in a southbound lane when she collided with a pickup truck driven by 23-year-old Kaden Ezell, of Bogue Chitto, Mississippi.

The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced James, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, dead at the scene. Ezell, who was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Northoaks Hospital for treatment.

Troop L spokesman Trooper Dustin Dwight says the crash remains under investigation. Investigators don’t believe impairment was a factor but have sent blood samples to the state crime lab for analysis.
