Grand Jury Indictment

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A federal judge has granted a mental evaluation for a Colorado man accused of making a racially charged threat to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department.

Bruce Oxenford, 30, of Denver is accused of sending an Aug. 26 e-mail threatening that “the klan will burn your ass from the cross (the full test of the FBI affidavit is attached to this story. It contains strong language.).” The e-mail was in connection with an August 23 fight between blacks and whites at a West Point restaurant that left a white, Ralph Weems IV, seriously injured.

Court records describe Oxenford as homeless and staying nights with different friends, although he worked at a Colorado amphitheater. He accessed the Internet at library computers where FBI agents surveiled him on at least two occasions.

Court documents say Oxenford accessed military-styled web sites. He also purchased and traded several guns and knives and bought ammunition and military styled clothing during the period.

If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines. A December 15 trial date is set.
