OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – The lawyer for a man charged with making online threats to attack Oxford High School says his client made the comments, but they weren’t a “true threat.”

Joshua Brandon Pillault is accused of making threats in October in a chat room while playing the online game “Runescape.” The indictment says he mentioned acquiring guns, Molotov cocktails, and pipe bombs and using them to level the school.

Pillault is a former student at Oxford High School.

His lawyer, Roy Percy, says in court filing Wednesday that the comments shouldn’t reasonably be interpreted as anything more than “idle or careless talk, exaggeration or something said in a joking manner.”

Trial is scheduled for June 24.

Pillault underwent a psychiatric evaluation, but the report is sealed.
