Man Caught With Assault Rifle, $10,000 in ‘ICE’

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A Columbus man armed with an assault rifle holds police at bay for more than four hours before being found hiding in a refrigerator.

A Columbus patrol officer spotted 34-year-old Damion Hampton at about 3 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex at 2112 14th Ave. N. Hampton was wanted on a cyberstalking warrant signed by a private prosecutor and for possible probation violation on a previous conviction. He ran into Apt. Bpartment and refused to come out, kicking off the standoff.

He tried to confuse officers by climbing through the ceiling into an adjacent apartment and hiding in a refrigerator but was found there by SWAT officers.

In addition to the AR 15 rifle, officers found several ounces of ICE valued at as much as $10,000. Hampton was the only one in the two apartments.
