CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A man who might have been just months from release from jail now must serve 10 years for two escapes.

Marquis Boyd, 24, was given consecutive five-year sentences after pleading guilty to escaping from the Clay County Jail July 2013 and again last June. He was caught both times.

He originally was arrested on three counts of armed robbery. Before his first escape, prosecutors were considering a plea deal. They did agree to retire the robbery charges in light of his 10 years on the escapes.

His mother, Tonya Edwards of West Point, was given five years probation for helping her son hide after his second escape.
