COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The brutal rape of a Columbus woman lands a man in prison for 30 years.

Myron Sewell, 24, pleaded guilty to raping and robbing a young woman in the bathroom of the Double S Laundry in January of last year.

Sewell approached the woman, pulled a gun and demanded money. When she said she didn’t have any, he dragged her by the hair into the bathroom, forced her to perform oral sex at gun point and then raped her before fleeing.

His DNA matched that taken from the victim after the attack.

Lowndes County Circuit Court Judge Lee Howard sentenced him to 30 years for the rape and 45 years for armed robbery but suspended 15 years of the robbery sentenced. He ordered the sentences to run at the same time.

Sewell still faces capital murder charges in the September 2011 shooting death of William Lavell Vaughn during what police say was a robbery.
