Man Gets 30 Years for Tuscaloosa Bar Shooting

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – A man who went on a violent crime spree at a Tuscaloosa bar and other locations in 2012 has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The Tuscaloosa News (http://bit.ly/1G0IZcU) reports that 46-year-old Nathan Van Wilkins pleaded guilty Friday to five attempted murder charges, 10 assault charges and an arson charge that resulted in a total sentence of 30 years.

Police said Wilkins shot a man at a home in Northport on July 17, 2012, then went to the Copper Top bar in Tuscaloosa with a semi-automatic rifle and injured 17 people, five of them seriously. Then he went to Capstone Oil Field Services in Brookwood and set fire to trucks. He had been fired from his job with the company that week and had recently filed for bankruptcy.
