Man Gets 8 Years in Wreck Death

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A 24-year-old Lowndes County man is sentenced to eight years for the death of his friend in a fatal accident more than two years ago.

Cordarius Stewart pleaded guilty in Lowndes Circuit Court today to DUI manslaughter in the Aug. 31, 2010 death of 21-year-old Jamie Whooper. Judge Lee Coleman sentenced him to eight years and fined him 36 hundred dollars. The sentence runs consecutive a five-year burglary sentence he’s currently serving.

Stewart pleaded guilty to going as fast as 110 miles per hour along Jess Lyons Road trying to flee Sheriff’s Deputy Clint Sims. Stewart lost control of the car and it flipped into a ditch, ejecting Stewart and Whooper, who later died from his injuries.

Stewart had a blood alcohol content of point 135 after the accident.
