COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A Columbus man faces up to 30 years in prison after being convicted of shooting another man in the head.

A Lowndes County jury deliberated an hour this afternoon before finding 45-year-old Jerry Lee Darnell guilty of the May 2012 shooting of Bernard Harris in the parking lot of William Roberts Terrace just east of Columbus.

Harris, who was 32 at the time, also was shot in the abdomen.

He has since recovered but has more than $29,000 in medical bills. He was among the witnesses during the three-day trial.

Because of a prior felony conviction, Darnell faces enhanced punishment when sentenced Friday.
