COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Main Street Columbus and the Mississippi University for Women Art Department came together to select the artwork for the 2016 Market Street Festival.

The two have worked together since 2009 to select the artwork for the festival.

Five committees judged nine presentations and narrowed it down to three contestants.

Committees picked a winner whose artwork best reflected the Market Street Festival.

The winning artwork was created by Allyson Flood, an MUW art student. She said she “wanted something that would pop.”

It was a difficult decision in choosing the winning artwork, but Allyson’s design stood out to the committee.

Main Street Director, Barbara Bigelow said, “We love this year’s. It’s very different from anything we’ve had in the past. That was one of the things we liked about it and we think it depicts all the elements of Market Street Festival. Fun, festive time..”

The prize was a check for 300 dollars and a booth at the 2016 Market Street Festival.
