LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The Mississippi Economic Council’s Pacesetter Tour rolled through the Golden Triangle on Tuesday.

Organizers talked about the state’s economic development and the state’s workforce.

A big area of discussion is the MEC’s proposal to use $375 million a year for road improvements across the state.

However, the Mississippi Association of Supervisors believe the plan is flawed.

It says only 75 million of that total will go to local governments for repairs and that isn’t enough.

The MEC says that the plan was designed that way based on certain factors.

“The reason that it’s a smaller amount is that the state roads carrying 90% of the commercial traffic and 60% of the overall traffic. These are the bridges that are bigger and more expensive to replace and the roads that are longer and more expensive to replace,” said M.E.C. President and CEO Blake Wilson.

The MEC tour will stop in 22 cities across the state, wrapping up March 9th in DeSoto County.
