Meeting On Proposed Starkville Industrial Park Postponed

PRESS RELEASE

Golden Triangle, Mississippi – The Golden Triangle Development LINK recently scheduled an economic development information session to present its recommendations and plans for the acquisition and development of a new industrial park to be located in the City of Starkville, Oktibbeha County, Mississippi.   The information session was scheduled to be held on Friday, January 15 at 10:30 a.m., in the Lyceum at East Mississippi Community College, Mayhew Campus.

The LINK has elected to postpone this meeting.  The information session was originally scheduled to follow closely behind meetings between the LINK and various professionals to finalize the design and cost estimates for the project.  As has long been discussed between the LINK and City of Starkville and Oktibbeha County, the maximum budget contemplated for the proposed new industrial park is $14 million.  The LINK team has been working with  engineers, utility companies,  landowners and others involved in the project to complete some preliminary due diligence on the property, as well as the design and service capabilities of the contemplated new industrial park to ensure (1) that the park can be designed and constructed within the proposed $14 million budget, and (2) that the new park, based upon such design and budget, will be capable of providing the amenities and service levels necessary to attract and locate desirable manufacturers, warehousing and distribution operations and other such tenants that will create much needed new jobs and investment in the City and County.

As recently as today, the LINK has continued to gather cost estimates for the development of the new park, and to evaluate possible design alternatives and due diligence activities required in connection with the development.  At this time, there remain certain cost estimates that require additional evaluation.  Once finalized, such remaining cost estimates could require further changes to the design, scope and timing of the new park.  As a result, the LINK has elected to postpone the briefing session slated for January 15 at 10:30 am until a later date to be determined following further review and analysis by the LINK of these outstanding cost and design matters.

The LINK team  is looking forward to unveiling this exciting new project,  but wishes to make certain that all design and cost elements have been fully vetted and finalized when the public presentation is made.  For this reason, the LINK team has elected to cancel the meeting scheduled for Friday morning.  It will continue its preliminary due diligence efforts with respect to the project and to gather the remaining cost elements.  The LINK will then reschedule the informational meeting at new date in the near future at a time convenient for the invitees.
