LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A Lowndes County teenager is ordered held without bond on capital murder and arson charges.

During a brief arraignment hearing in Lowndes County Circuit Court, a judge also ordered a mental evaluation for Travelle Hicks who is charged with beating 46-year-old Gwen Roberson with a skillet during a burglary and then setting her mobile home on fire.

Roberson’s body was found in the kitchen inside the burned home on the morning of August 11 after firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Hicks, who was 17 at the time but has since turned 18, lived across Downs Road from her.

Hicks was arrested three days after the fire and was indicted this month by the Lowndes County Grand Jury.
