CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — First it was meth labs, then it was the shake and bake method, now it’s being shipped in … Leading to more of the drug on the street then ever before.

“We was taking out meth labs, you know, just about on a daily basis,” says Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott.

Then the method of making meth evolved, eliminating the lab.

“It’s what they call the shake and bake method,” says Sheriff Scott.

Now a pure finished product is being trafficked to Mississippi.

“Ice, that’s coming from Mexico,” says Sheriff Scott.

Having it brought in eliminates some dangers …

“It was a danger to the neighborhood, some of them had children in the house, chemical smells, the potential explosion, and the danger it puts law enforcement agents trying to put them out,” says the Sheriff.

But now, there’s more on the street , Sheriff Scott says it’s important law enforcement’s works hard to combat the problem because much of the crime in the county is drug related.

“Old fashion law enforcement. We’re on the streets. We’re looking out, and we’re following up. Instead of looking for meth labs. We’re focusing on traffickers, ” he says.

It’s an approach that Sheriff Scott says requires, city , state and counties working together to make the streets safer for everyone.

Sheriff Scott says Ice is also more expensive than the meth that was made locally, but that has not decreased the interest in it.
