Miss. Abortion Law Will Go Before U.S. Court

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Oral arguments will be conducted in April or May in federal appeals court that threatens to shut down Mississippi’s only abortion clinic.

U.S. District Judge Daniel P. Jordan III granted the law, but prevented the state from closing the clinic after it agreed to comply with the law. Jackson Women’s Health Organization filed a suit against it, which demands its OB-GYN physicians have access to admit patients to a local hospital as needed.

The clinic has failed to acquire admitting privileges for out-of-state physicians.

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood is defending the state in the lawsuit.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has stated that arguments on the matter are set to begin the week of April 28.
