ACKERMAN, Miss. (WCBI) — Mississippi’s First Lady Deborah Bryant visited Ackerman Elementary School today.

Ackerman is the 52nd stop in her Reading Across Mississippi literacy tour.

Bryant will visit all 82 counties in the state this year.

The goal is to increase awareness about the importance of reading.

Bryant said the secret to success as an adult is making sure good reading habits are taught at a young age.

“Reading is everything,” Bryant said. “I mean, you cannot move forward, if you cannot read. And it’s just something that I don’t think that we pay enough attention to. And it’s just very important. They cannot be successful without reading.

Bryant read “Fig,” which was written by a Mississippi author.
