JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi state government would borrow $250 million under an agreement between House and Senate negotiators.

The deal on House Bill 1729, part of a larger negotiation over borrowing, tax credits and tax cuts, includes money for construction projects at universities, community colleges and Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula.

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves had said last week that he was seeking to hold the borrowing total to about $200 million, but House leaders pushed for more in negotiations.

The bill includes money to complete two history museums in Jackson which are supposed to open in time for the state’s bicentennial in 2017, as well as for an arts center in Meridian and a middle school for the Starkville-Oktibbeha school district to be built on the campus of Mississippi State University.
