Mississippi Man Claims $1 Million Powerball Ticket in SD

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A Mississippi man who bought a Powerball ticket during an annual hunting trip in South Dakota has won $1 million.

South Dakota Lottery officials say John Chalk Jr. of Brandon, Mississippi, has claimed the winning ticket from the Oct. 25 drawing. Chalk matched all five white ball numbers but missed the Powerball.

The ticket was sold at the Highland Travel Plaza on Highland Way Mitchell. The store will receive $20,000 for the sale.

Powerball is played in 44 states and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The jackpot currently sits at $60 million for the upcoming Wednesday drawing.

The odds of winning $1 million playing Powerball are 1 in more than 5.1 million.
