Mississippi Ranks 8th in U.S. Injury Related Deaths

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- According to a new study, Mississippi is one of the top 10 states that has the highest injury related deaths.

A state by state policy report shows West Virginia has the highest injury related deaths in the nation, and the state of New York comes in last. Mississippi came in 8th out of all the states.

In the study, most of the injury deaths involved drug overdose, car accidents, homicides and suicides, falls, and traumatic brain injuries.

Drug overdoses are the leading cause of injury deaths in the US.

Injuries are the leading cause of death for Americans ages 1 to 44 – and are responsible for nearly 193,000 deaths per year.
