Mississippi State Announces Fall 2014 Society of Scholars Class

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — Twenty-four Mississippi State seniors are new members of the university’s prestigious Society of Scholars in the Arts and Sciences.

The honor organization recognizes top university students each semester from all majors who have demonstrated the highest standard of academic excellence, and who also have pursued a broad exposure to courses in the arts, sciences and humanities.

Persons selected for the rigorous screening process must have demonstrated a sound foundation in languages, mathematics, sciences, oral and written communication, humanities, and social sciences.

In addition to Mississippi, the 2014 fall scholars’ class represents the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington. They include (by hometown):

ARLINGTON, Texas–Anna L. Turner, a chemical engineering/biomolecular engineering major and the daughter of Eugene and Cheryl Turner.

BILOXI–Danae L. Carlson, a general liberal arts and art double-major and the daughter of Perry and Andrea Carlson.

BYRAM–Janice C. Baxter, a psychology major and the daughter of Robert Baxter and Carol Carter.

CLINTON–Jeffrey D. Johnston, a chemistry and chemical engineering double-major and the son of Daniel Lewis and Mary Johnston.

COLUMBUS–Danielle M. Rogers, a mathematics major and the daughter of David and Linda Rogers.

DOUGLASVILLE, Georgia–Adam T. Burton, a history major and the son of Daryl and Rhonda Burton.

GERMANTOWN, Tennessee–Danielle H. Francis, a biochemistry and chemistry double-major and the daughter of Stephen Francis and Ingrid Francis.

GURLEY, Alabama–Jayme E. Castillo, a chemistry major and the daughter of Jasper and Kristine Castillo.

HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas–Molly E. Beckwith, an English major and the daughter of Gary and Kelly Beckwith.

JACKSON–Christine B. Bowman, a communication/public relations major and the daughter of David and Kate Bowman; and Cameron S. Clarke, a physics major and the son of Stuart and Janie Clarke.

LAKELAND, Tennessee–Kelsey J. Huggins, a general liberal arts major and the daughter of Kendall Huggins and Vicki Lawson.

LUCEDALE–Joanna E. Boyles, a biological sciences/pre-medicine major and the daughter of William and Kaye Boyles.

MADISON, Alabama–Farrah L. Miller, a foreign languages/French and German double-major and the daughter of Robert and Dotty Miller.

MARIETTA, Georgia–Michael F. Burgess, a political science/pre-law and history double-major and the son of William and Susan Burgess; and Bethany M. Crooks, a communication/public relations major and the daughter of John and Cheryl Crooks.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee–Robbie K. Salters, a psychology major and the daughter of Melvin and Debra Salters.

MERIDIAN–Danielle M. Moulds, a psychology major and the daughter of Ivan and Melba Moulds.

MONROE, Washington–Nathan W. Alexander, a chemistry/pre-medicine major and the son of Duncan Brackin and Jaime Alexander.

STARKVILLE–Catherine N. Feng, a chemistry/pre-pharmacy major and the daughter of Eric and Candy Feng; and Terri S. Linley, a marketing major and the daughter of James and Reatha Linley.

TUPELO–Mikhail Gaerlan, a physics and mathematics double-major and the son of Oliver and Maria Gaerlan; Margaret G. Parker, a chemistry major and the daughter of Donald and Vickie Parker; and Tyler Shack, a chemistry/pre-medicine major and the son of Anthony Key and Sharon Shack.
