AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – On Saturday, Monroe County hosted their annual Relay For Life event.

It’s a time for communities to come together and honor cancer survivors, those who have passed away and to raise money to fight back against the deadly disease.

This year, the Monroe County Relay For Life moved from its previous location at Frisco Park, to Pea Patch Park.

It also had new expanded hours.

Organizers hope to get more people involved in the event, as it serves as a major fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

“The American Cancer Society is funding $412 million dollars in cancer research as we speak. So, it’s a big deal and that’s part of what Relay does. Relay is the fund-raising arm of the American Cancer Society,” said American Cancer Society Representative Rick Huffman.
