Monroe County Schools Superintendent Releases Statement on Coach Verner

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Monroe County Schools Superintendent Scott Cantrell has released a statement on the assault against Hamilton Girls Basketball Coach Sue Verner.

“Coach Sue Verner is certainly a valued and respected member of the Hamilton School faculty, and her efforts in all that comes with serving as a coach and teacher are much appreciated. We were relieved that she was released from the hospital on Thursday evening, and our hope for her is a full and speedy recovery. Students, faculty, administration and community members have rallied around Coach Verner through recent health issues, and she will again receive support as she progresses through this situation.

At this time, employees of the District are fully cooperating with law enforcement officials who are gathering information pertaining to the case. The District will continue to fully cooperate with the proper authorities for the duration of the investigation. ”
