Montgomery County Names Interim Road Manager

WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) — For the second time in a week, Montgomery County Road Manager Jimmy Gant is out of a job.

Despite support from dozens of local residents and business leaders who filled the meeting room and forced it to be moved to a courtroom, supervisors voted 3-2 Thursday to remove him as interim manager and replace him with Road Department employee Chris Brazeale.

Gant was gracious in his removal, telling the supervisors and the crowd of supporters he appreciated the opportunity to work for the county for 12 years. He said he will look for another job in the private sector to support his family.

Supervisors will advertise for a permanent road manager and could have a new one in place in a month.

The board terminated Gant last week and then were forced to rename him on an interim basis when they couldn’t agree on anyone else. At that time, Brazeale was nominated for interim but his nomination failed on a 3-2 vote. Supervisors were able to agree on him today.

Supervisors have not give a reason for Gant’s removal.
