AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) — As clean up continues and prayers of thanks continue, more video of Monday’s Memorial Day tornado hitting Amory surfaces, this one shot by a downtown merchant.

Chad Jones was at Southern Comfort Furniture Monday morning when the tornado warning went into effect. He went outside and started watching for the twister and recorded the moment in history as it entered the southwest side of downtown and cut a path across residential areas and Amory Middle School just east of downtown.

“First thing I heard the wind blowing and it got calm and kind of yellow-looking outside and stuff started flying in the air so I got my camera and started recording. The next thing I knew it was coming over Main Street right down south of us,” said Jones, who owns Southern Comfort Furniture.

“The clouds were really funny looking, a weird color and looked like it was boiling or whatever…when I saw that I got out in the middle of Main Street and you could see the big part of the cloud coming over and then when it went across Main Street, I was in shock, couldn’t believe it actually hit,” Jones recalled.

Tuesday, he and his parents are thankful the family-owned business was unharmed as was most of the downtown area except for a few awnings.

But he won’t soon forget the experience.
