Most Counties in Region Show Job Gains

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — The jobs picture across the state and region continues to improve a little at a time.

New figures from the state Department of Employment Security  show the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell slightly to 9 point 1 percent from July to August. That was almost two percentage points better than a year ago. 29 thousand more people are working this year than last year.

Compared to August of last year, more people had jobs in 18 of 24 counties in the region. Lee, Union, Lafayette, Pontotoc, and Tishomingo were among the biggest gainers over last year. Choctaw, Oktibbeha, Noxubee and Clay saw slight declines.
