Mother And Daughter Among 3 Killed In Prentiss Co . Wreck

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still investigating a head-on collision, in Prentiss County, that claimed the lives of three people including a mother and daughter.

Troopers responded to MS 371, near the Marietta Community, at approximately 5pm, Wednesday afternoon. Upon arriving it appeared Jo Deana Smith, 49, of Booneville, and her mother Betty Smith, 74, also of Booneville, was traveling south bound on MS 371, in a 2013 Nissian Altima, when they were struck head-on by a north bound, 2007 Chrysler Sebring, driven by Jordan Jones, 26, of Baldwyn.

Jo Deana Smith and her mother both died on the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Jones was ejected from his vehicle during the crash and was taken to NMMC, in Tupelo, by ambulance. He later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Due to physical evidence recovered from the scene, Troopers are investigating whether drugs may have contributed to Jones crossing the center line and colliding head-on with Smith’s vehicle.​
