Video: MSMS Students Practice For the “Eight o’ May”

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- They lifted their voices in honor of history.

May 8th, 1865 unofficially marked the end of slavery for those in Columbus. Locally known as, “eight o’ may” it’s the day Columbus slaves learned of their freedom. Through song and dance, MSMS students will re-enact the role Columbus slaves played in the Civil War, and the celebrations that followed its ending.

You can catch their performance at Sandfield Cemetery in Columbus at 5:30 WEDNESDAY afternoon. The event is free and open to the public.
