STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — As the popularity of unmanned aircraft grow, MSU wants to be a leader in the industry.

Monday afternoon the director of a new research team, Major General Jim Poss, spoke about the ASSURE FAA project at the Starkville Rotary Club’s luncheon.

Major General Poss leads a coalition of 18 top research universities, including MSU, in developing strategies to help integrate Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, or UAV’s into our nations airspace.

He says it’s important to invest in these aircraft because they are the future.

” Transform our lives, 10 years from now we’re thinking unmanned vehicles are going to be everywhere just like cell phones are. They’re going to be used for search and rescue after disasters, used to grow crops better and faster, going to inspect our oil pipelines,” says Major General Poss.
