Video: MSU To Name Dorm After Former Congressman

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi State University will name a dormitory after late Congressman Alan Nunnelee.

The College Board approved plans Thursday to name what is known as North Hall, a dormitory opened in 2007, for the Tupelo Republican who died in office in February.

Nunnelee earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from MSU in 1980.

MSU President Mark Keenum says Nunnelee’s widow, Tori, plans to donate Nunnelee’s papers to the university this fall, and that MSU plans a ceremony to name the dormitory for Nunnelee then.

Keenum says Nunnelee was a “true leader” in his 15 years as a state senator and five years as a congressman. The 56-year-old died from a brain tumor after an extended illness.

North Hall is part of Zacharias Village on the northeast corner of MSU’s campus.
