Musgrove Lawsuit Hearing Scheduled for Jan. 14

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A decision in a lawsuit that could impact funding for school districts across the state could come early next year.

A Jan. 14 hearing has been set in Hinds County Chancery Court in the suit, which demands the state pay $230 million to 21 school districts that have been under funded since 2006.

Among the school districts included in the lawsuit are Okolona, Prentiss and Clay counties

The lawsuit also asks a judge to order the state to fully fund its education system in future years.

The school districts and the state have asked for an immediate ruling, agreeing the facts are straight forward, even if the law isn’t.

Overall, school districts have been under funded by $1.5 billion since state legislators approved a 2006 law promising full funding.
