MUW Balloon Release

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – It was a liberating moment for many Wednesday (10/17) at Mississippi University for Women as they released dozens of balloons into the air.

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a presentation was held at the MUW Stark Recreation Center about the severity of abusive relationships.  The group wrote down their feelings on a piece of paper and attached it to their balloon. With the release of the balloons, each person symbolically let their emotions run free.

“We want to educate everyone on domestic violence, let you know that it’s not a social or enthic group, it involves everyone so you know we just want to promote that and let everybody know about the awareness of it,” said Safe Haven Coordinator Dorothy Givens.

A short film was shown to educate individuals about the warning signs of domestic violence.
