MUW Music Department Maintains Accreditation

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Department of Music at Mississippi University for Women announced renewal of accreditation of its programs through the National Association of Schools of Music.

The Department of Music was first accredited in 1935 and has been continuously accredited since that date. The W was the first institution in the state to be accredited by the NASM.

Dr. Brian Anderson, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said, “NASM’s decision affirms the very hard work of the music department faculty. They have turned Poindexter Hall into a true focal point of the university. We see great events in an attractive building, but at the heart are excellent academic programs that are real strengths for MUW.”

Dr. Julia Mortyakova, music department chair, added, “We are very proud of the strong tradition of excellence that has always been the hallmark of the MUW Department of Music. The renewal of our accreditation nationally recognizes the high caliber of our faculty, students and curriculum.”

The Department of Music offers bachelor of arts in music, bachelor of music in music education and  bachelor of music in music therapy.

The next full review for the Department of Music will take place the 2023-2024 academic year.
