MUW Student Dies of Natural Causes in Dorm

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A staff member at Columbus Middle School who helped with the band there and also was a student at Mississippi University for Women was found dead on the floor in his dorm room in MUW’s Columbus Hall Monday evening.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the man as 32-year-old LeShawn Dewayne Orr of Prairie.
He was found when a friend went to check on him at about 5 p.m. He apparently had died Monday morning.
Merchant is checking with Orr’s doctors on his medical conditions but says all factors point to natural causes. Merchant says Orr apparently died from internal bleeding. He’d had surgery earlier this spring, but Merchant says he wasn’t sure what role, if any, that might have played.
Orr had enrolled at MUW in the spring as an English major.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete Tuesday morning. Williams Memorial Funeral Home in Okolona is in charge of arrangements.
The university has counselors available for students needing assistance.
