MUW Student Success Center Tor Host Nursing Fair

COLUMBUS, Miss. (PRESS RELEASE) – Being prepared is an essential part of performing a successful job interview.

On Thursday, March 10, Mississippi University for Women’s Student Success Center will host a nursing fair, which will be open to all graduating nursing students, as well as alumni. The event will take place in Martin Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Students should be mindful to dress in business attire and know that first impressions count,” said career specialist Towanda Williams.

Williams encouraged female participants to wear suits, blouses, skirts, black or brown slacks, and dress slacks as a part of their attire. She added that stud earrings are acceptable for women and a minimum amount of makeup. Male participants are encouraged to stay away from earrings and wear a necktie.

Participants should bring resumes to the nursing fair, said Williams, noting that individuals will get the opportunity to network with possible employers from different states.

Williams said recruiters and vendors will be looking for graduating students to fill open positions at their facilities, and the nursing fair will be a one-stop opportunity for individuals to network and highlight their skills to prospective employers.

“Be on time. Dress appropriately. Bring resumes and copies of resumes. Make eye contact,” Williams said.

Williams also said that students should be prepared with a one minute elevator speech that will help them be able to communicate who they are, as well as what they are looking for to be employed.

The Student Success Center is available to help participants with preparation of resumes and interviews. Individuals who are seeking help, may schedule an appointment or walk in for assistance. Students may also schedule a mock interview.
