COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Students at the Mississippi University for Women are likely to see an increase in tuition for the upcoming 2015-16 semester.

The bump in tution will be the first increase in more than three years. The 2.5 percent raise equals an approximately $50 increase per semester, which would raise the total tuition cost to $5781 per year.

MUW President Jim Borsig said the school has added other programs and incentives to supplement the increase.

“We’ve also taken steps to increase scholarship opportunities in the last couple of years,” Borsig said. “We’ve expanded opportunities for student employment on campus because we have added over 50 jobs for students. So, we take very seriously providing access for students, and high-quality education carries a price tag.”

Borsig said the increase will not affect future enrollment numbers.
