National Guard Officers Meet in Tupelo

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Army and Air National Guard officers from all over the state of Mississippi descended on Tupelo this weekend.

They gathered at the Bancorp South Arena for the 78th Annual Conference of the National Guard Association of Mississippi. These officers came here on their own, this was not a government funded event. Lt. Colonel Tom Crosby is President of the organization says about 1-thousand officers and their spouses attend this gathering every year and discuss important issues related to the Guard.

“The issues at hand have to do with manning, equipment he explains. It has to do with retirements things along those lines for the future of the soldiers today as well as those that haven’t even joined the military both Air and Army National Guard,” Crosby says.

He says there are about 10-thousand men and women serving in Guard in Mississippi. He says they are continuing to lobby Capitol Hill about funding for the Guard for both its federal and state missions.
