New Albany Armed Robbery Arrest

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Baltimore man is charged with robbing a New Albany mechanic shop.

Delorian Shields, 24, is charged with armed robbery.

New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson says a man walked into the Snyder Street shop, about 10 AM on Monday, wearing a mask and armed with a handgun.

The employee gave up his wallet.

A short time later, a nearby resident called police to say a man was hiding in a carport.

Robertson says Shields was quickly arrested. Officers found the cash, the mask and the gun.

Investigators say Shields is familiar with the area.

Robertson says Shields told officers he needed money.

Bond is expected to be set Tuesday.

Robertson was quick to praise the person who tipped off police, “Without the public’s help and support we would not be able to solve a lot of crimes.”
