NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) — New Albany Police are about to get a whole lot more efficient.

The department plans to spend $35,000 from its court technology fund on the E-Citation paperless system used by state troopers for tickets and information processing.

Officers will record information and print tickets from computers in their cars. The information will automatically be stored in local and state databases, reducing errors and the amount of time officers are filling out paperwork at the station.

“We swipe somebody’s license for information into our system and issue the citation accordingly. Now the biggest benefit for us, we’re going to be able to at the same time we’re doing that we won’t tie up the database for the police department and the database for the municipal court,” explained Police Chief Chris Robertson.

City aldermen approved the deal last week.

When in place in six months, New Albany will be one of the first cities in the state to convert to the system. The state is providing the software and troopers will handle training.
