NEW ALBANY, Miss.(WCBI)–Bike riders and shopper in Downtown New Albany come together this weekend for a good time at Trailhead Plaza. Now that New Albany Main Street Association and New Albany Tourism Department have joined forces, the results are music to the ears of economic developers in that Union County town.

At the beginning of the 44 mile long Tanglefoot Trail, there is the newly built Trailhead Plaza. Starting this weekend, free music is the order of the day.

“This week we’re having Alona Mosley, its kind of an off country thing in the morning. And then that evening we’ll have Cadillac Funk who is a blues musician. He will be playing here tomorrow night,” said Sean Johnson/New Albany Tourism Director.

It is a location where biker riders and shoppers are expected to spend money in downtown New Albany. The joint effort hatched in the minds of New Albany Tourism and New Albany’s Main Street Association members, is making good use of an undeveloped piece of real estate at the mouth of the Tanglefoot Trail stretching toward Houston.

“All the community leaders, city officials, the tourism department, and Main Street, and city beautification. Can all come together and be a part of such a wonderful project that makes a positive impact on our downtown revitalization area,” said Vickie Duke/Main Street Association.

“You know its really a quality of life issue. For New Albany to be able to be a town that offers music on the weekends in an environment such as this. People can ride their bike in from other towns to hear the music,” said Sean Johnson/New Albany Marketing Director.

Music draws people and when people gather downtown they are sure to leave dollars in that local area, dollars those developers can count on.

“People can grab a good lunch from Fat Louie’s, or Venicees, or Latham’s Hamburger Inn. Which got named as having one of the best burgers in the state. You know and of course the coffee shop, AC’s coffee here and Trails And Trends has been just a great asset for the community as well,” said Sean Johnson.

“And we just wanted to be able to add an extra atmosphere to our downtown,” said Duke.

Each Saturday at Trailhead Plaza there will be two performances from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m and from 5-7 p.m.
