New Albany Woman Killed After Tree Falls on Car

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) — Authorities have released the name of the New Albany woman killed after a tree fell onto a car.

Union County coronor Pam Bowman says her name is 62-year-old Maria Melendez. She was a passenger in the car.

The accident happened around 5 p.m. Sunday on Highway 30 East.

The other passenger, and driver were taken to the hospital, but they’ve since been released.

Bowman says the tree was likely damaged from Sunday’s storm.

New Albany police are still investigating.
