New Community College Executive Director Hired

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Andrea Mayfield is the new executive director of Mississippi’s Community College Board.

The board voted unanimously Friday to hire Mayfield, who had been president of Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, since July 2014.

The Alabama Community College System accepted Mayfield’s resignation Thursday.

Mayfield worked at East Mississippi Community College from 1996 to 2012, rising to vice president of the Scooba campus.

The Mississippi board met earlier this month in closed session to interview four candidates.

Former Mississippi State University President and University of Alabama System Chancellor Malcolm Portera led the search.

The 10-member board was deadlocked for months over whether it would hire Debra West as executive director. That standoff ended when West withdrew from consideration in April.

Eric Clark retired after holding the post for seven years.
