New GED Test to be Released in 2014

BOONEVILLE, Miss.–(PRESS RELEASE)On January 2, 2014, the revamped General Education Development (GED) Test will be will be released.

Available only on computer at an official testing site, the test will be much more difficult, as well as more expensive than the current test. In Mississippi the testing fee will approximately double next year. Because of these measures, those without a high school diploma or equivalency need to act now.

According to Dale Michael, ABE/GED Assessment Specialist at Northeast Mississippi Community College, anyone who has dropped out of school and needs a GED to get into college or find a job, should be encouraged to enroll in a class and/or take the test before the end of the year.

“Many individuals in our area have passed parts of the test,” Michael explained. “If they don’t finish and pass the test by December 31, 2013, students will have to take the entire test over. I highly encourage anyone who hasn’t passed all parts or who have never taken the test to do so immediately.”

According to the American Council on Education, there are currently 538,000 Mississippians who lack a high school diploma or GED. That means there are over half a million people in this state alone who do not have the training they need to be competitive in the modern workforce of the 21st century.

To act now, contact Michael at Northeast at 662-720-4079 or dwmichael@nemcc.edu to find out more information on how to get a GED today.
