New Hotel Coming to Oxford

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — A new development will soon be popping up in Oxford.

Chancellor’s House will be a luxury hotel that will provide a new high end option for rebel country visitors.

This crowd will soon be a little less crowded, at least outside the stadium.

This construction site holds the answer, a brand new 31 suite hotel, Right at the corner of the square.

It’s an idea started by a Dad who had trouble booking a place to visit his Ole Miss studying son.

” Not being familiar with how much demand there was, we didn’t make our reservations and we ended up staying in a neighboring town,” says President of Chancellor’s House, David Porter.

Oxford City Leaders say the project continues their commitment to take care of a growing population, while sticking with the “Oxford Feel.”

“That feel that we have around here of locally owned, locally operated, where there’s a big strong push in care for the operation of the business as well as love for the town,” John Maynard with the Oxford, Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce.

Not only will it bring more beds, but also a new lodging experience.

“The two room suites are going to have parlor with a 60 inch plasma screen TV, and a little place for drinks and a place where you can entertain the family and friends, not just a bedroom,” says Porter.

That family feel is what brings Ole Miss alums back to Oxford each year.

“Gonna be really unique and special, that will add to the overall fantastic ambiance in Oxford Mississippi,” says Senator Trent Lott.

So when fans roll in for the 2016 season they may be able to score a brand new room.

Officials with Chancellor’s House say it’s too soon to know the projects cost.

The Oxford Chamber of Commerce says there are plans for more hotels in the future although they would not go into specific plans.
